A Worth Publishing / CourseWeDo webinar that will address the painful issue of school exclusion. We know that when we think from an attachment aware, trauma informed perspective, exclusion is highly likely to reinforce the cycle of rejection and isolation for children and young people whose challenging behaviour has brought them to that point.
Can we say confidently that their background and circumstances will inevitably be characterised by adverse childhood experiences? And if so, how has the communication of their distress through their behaviour not been picked up earlier, and addressed? What are we excluding them to? Can exclusion ever be constructive?
And what do staff need, especially those alongside pupils who seem to be on that trajectory, to help them avert it? How can we communicate attachment aware and trauma informed ways of thinking to colleagues who see behaviour differently?
