Recorded webinar - 5th February 2021

A Worth Publishing / CourseWeDo webinar that helps us think about what empathy actually is, how it develops and how it can be helped to develop.

Are hours spent online and working virtually having a negative effect on how we can attune to one another? And what happens when our own empathy gets blocked? How can we free ourselves up again to empathise with our pupils and clients, carers and parents, our colleagues, our community and ourselves?

With Michele Crook, CEO of Babywatching UK, Tanya Wallis, Counsellor from Croydon Drop-In, and Dr Dan Hughes, Child & Adolescent Psychologist
Comments about the webinar:

  • Thank you so very much for the opportunity. It was great to have such a diverse range of speakers. Having such an opportunity has brought professional joy back at a time when there have been so many challenges so thank you all.
  • I had felt mentally exhausted and so the thought had crossed my mind...why had I signed up to an online session that was being broadcast at the end of the day and on a Friday? No need for concern because as soon as the live webinar started i was hooked. I left feeling inspired, curious and replenished. and I have the weekend to process and reflect that compassion starts with self. Thank you
  • Super lineup and very informative
  • I liked the professional, yet relaxed, vibe. All speakers were excellent.
  • I enjoyed the pace of the webinar, the change in speakers kept it very engaging though I could have listened to Dan Hughes for hours. Presenters made it one of the most personalised online forums I have engaged with since this new way of working began. I enjoyed the honesty of speakers. I would like to listen to the webinar again and do my own work to delve more deeply into the information presented. I very much enjoyed listening to the inception and evolution of baby watching up to and including its current practice... I would be very interested to know if this work has been done with children in care and the impact this has had. Thankyou for the opportunity to participate, I very much enjoyed the webinar.
  • Honestly loved this session, I won't with the intention of only watching Dan (I had plans that night, after the date changed) however the other speakers were just brilliant. It was worth being late for!! Thank you so much - I'll be sharing the webinar with my colleagues!
  • It was a very emotive session. It was very refreshing and inspiring. A lovely way to end a stressful week. Thank you
  • Fabulous webinar, i could listen to Dan Hughes all day long. Thank you
  • Thanks for putting it on for free, was a very refreshing way to end the week.
  • Brilliant webinar - I felt so much more positive about life and work as a result of attending.
  • Thank you! Many thanks for the enjoyable training
  • These sessions are always excellent thank you
  • All speakers were so inspirational
  • It was easy to listen to and enjoy, without feeling too much need to be taking part (after a day at work) - I loved that the little polls were mixed in.
  • Very inspiring speakers.
  • A great event, inspiring, calming and informative!
  • Really well put together and the surveys were useful throughout. Particularly enjoyed listening to Dan he is so inspiring and his work influences me. Thank you.
  • Thank you for your efforts in the service of mental health.
  • Thank you to all three presenters it was a wonderful end to the week
  • I am very glad it was recorded as it was content-rich and there were a couple of interuptions my end so I will watch it again.
  • Many thanks Andrea and your team for your continued support during times of Covid. The time slot is a good one as ordinarily I wouldn't arrange something at 4 on a Friday but this works as it feels like a wind down after the week and it is always a positive learning experience and helps to round off with thought provoking ideas. I get a cuppa and sit back and listen without the phone ringing and e mails coming through to such a wide ranging topics repertoire. Particular thanks to being able to listen to Dan Hughes as well , what a treat and free !I always find them so helpful and the fact that they are recorded. It makes the world feel right for the time we are together e.g. attachment and trauma aware humans discussing 'the norm' for ourselves and others.
  • Well run webinar, thank you
  • Another fantastic webinar - thank you!
  • Thank you for a great webinar and the highlight of my week.
  • Dan Hughes was phenomenal and I found the info on baby watching to be eye opening and will definitely seek out more info.
  • Very useful, will recommend to others.
  • Thank you and the team for an enjoyable and informative webinar and look forward to more.
  • It was very professionally planned and delivered and offered thought provoking content as a platform for further learning
  • Dan Hughes was amazing as ever
  • Thank you for a very uplifting, inspiring and enjoyable afternoon.
  • Thank you for covering such an interesting and relevant topic.
  • Thank you so much for providing this training. It was informative and restorative at a time when I know we are all working extra hard. Many Thanks

This is a unique opportunity to spend time with Dr Heather Geddes who has spent her working life enabling children and young people settle to learn, especially those whose attachment difficulties and experience of extremely difficult early lives first moved her to focus on their predicament and challenges. B.A.S.E.® Babywatching programme creates unique experiences for whole classes, whilst also embracing and supporting the journey of each unique pupil. This deceptively simple programme creates conscious and subconscious links for individual children and groups, because the atmosphere it creates that has a huge impact. Children (and adults) are engaged and drawn in by the process: it provides opportunities for sustained shared watching, talking. listening, and critical thinking; and it provides focus on the development of relationships through attunement and empathy. In gentle, unobtrusive ways, the B.A.S.E.® Babywatching programme enhances pupils and community experience and capacity in a lasting manner.

How can we free ourselves up again to empathise with our pupils and clients, carers and parents, our colleagues, our community and ourselves?
